Its Snowing!

This is a great week in North Pole, Alaska. We are getting snow and lots of it. We must have gotten 8 inches in the last 24 hours. That is a big dumping got to get my snow machine warmed up. I have posted a video of the snow fall. If you want to see the snow fall on Fairbanks, go to our papers arctic cam that looks south across the Chena River to first street.

I must make a correction to last weeks post, I stated the pipe line put the first bridge in across the Yukon River. That was not correct, it should have said the first bridge in Alaska across the Yukon. Thank you Kay for correcting that!

Last week I discussed our trip to Dawson City. We went there to gamble. There is no gambling in Alaska, another reason I am moving to Reno. The closest we get is pull tabs and the not authorized, but heads are turned the other way, the Nenana Ice Classic, when will break up occur. This is where you bet on when the river will break up.

I have posted some more pictures of Dawson and Chicken, AK. One thing I found, the people of Yukon, Interior Alaska, and northern British Columbia have in common is they do not like being dominated by the population center of their State or Province. For example, we have Anchorage, which has over half the population of Alaska. The Yukon and northern British Columbia has Vancouver that dominates their politics.

The life styles of Vancouver and Anchorage are completely different than those who live outside these urban areas. Yet we are dictated by their policies.

If you come to Alaska and say you have visited Alaska by going to Anchorage or the Kenai Peninsula, sorry you haven't seen Alaska. You must make it a point to go north of the Alaskan Range or visit the many villages that you can only get to by air, boat, snow machine or dog sled. Then you are getting close to seeing Alaska.

Hmmm, I must be getting a touch of cabin fever to have written that.
